THE NEW YORK TIMES

The New York To Paris Auto Race of 1908

1908/1968 -- The NEW YORK TIMES published extensive original coverage for the 5 months duration of the Race in 1908.  They also published a special 60th Anniversary Edition in 1968.  This coincided with the Transcontinental Reliability Tour run that year by the Veteran Motor Car Club of America.  That tour duplicated the portion of the Race run in the continental United States.

Historic Racing Car Stirs Memories as it comes home

1989 -- published a feature article on Saturday April 29, 1989.  This followed a series beginning with a front page article Historic Car Returning to Buffalo when the Thomas Flyer returned to the plant where it had been built.  The 1200 Niagara Street facility now owned by Rich Products Corp., had not only been used for building the Thomas Motor Cars, but also for assembling Curtiss warplanes.

2007 -- tells of the upcoming Great Race 2008, a special weekend of activities will be held in Springville, NY July 24-27, 2008.  (Reported by E. Ploetz Sept. 4, 2007)

2007 -- reports on the Reno Auto Museum highlights 1908 New York to Paris race at the opening of the Great Automobile Race Centennial exhibit which runs through January 5, 2009! (Reported by Mark Bacon Dec. 15, 2007)

The Great Race: Recollections of the Winner

1992 -- The S.A.E Congress and Exposition hosted a "first person" presentation by Jeff Mahl, the Great-grandson of George Schuster Sr., driver and winner of the 1908 New York to Paris Automobile Race.  With nearly 1,000 attendees, members and their families traveled back to the turn of the century and relived the incredible adventure.
